Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has announced that his country is in the advanced stages of developing a “highly effective” vaccine against Kovit-19.
” We use our vaccine. In fact, our vaccine is better than everything else because it covers all types, ”the president said in a televised address, adding that the East African country is currently experiencing an increase in epidemics, with more public hospitals and doctors.
Museveni says vaccine production in Uganda has been delayed due to a shortage of Govt-19 patients.
“We had a problem in April. We don’t have enough patients. There are a lot of patients for clinical trials now, ”he added, adding that he has been in touch with many actors around the world to help solve the vaccine crisis.
“The vaccines we have received contain certain types of viruses, such as Wuhan and strains from India,” Museveni said, announcing more drastic measures to control the virus.
Museveni said Uganda will be medically self-sufficient by 2022. “By next year, Uganda will no longer be dependent on external medical solutions. We will have our own solutions,” he said.
More than 10,000 Govt-19 cases have been reported in Uganda in the past ten days, with 1,397 new cases reported on Saturday alone, according to figures released by the Ministry of Health.
