Chinese Mystery Snail in Lake Hartwell

CLEMSON, SC - Bellamya Japonica, an exotic, aquatic species of snail commonly known as the Chinese Mystery Snail has been introduced into Lake Hartwell. It is the only known occurrence in the Savannah River Basin.

A study to map its distribution is underway. Contact Dr. John Hains, Biological Sciences, 132 Long Hall, Clemson University, Clemson, SC 29634, to report sightings.

To keep track of its location and rate of spread send the date and location of sighting, dead or alive, to Dr. Hains.
