CLEMSON, SC - The Clemson Off-Road Triathlon will be on Saturday, February 16, 2008, as the second stop of the Fourth Annual Category IV Race Series. This triathlon features a five-mile trail run on dirt road and single track, a four-mile paddle around Lake Issaqueena nestled in the heart of the forest, and a 10-mile mountain bike ride. Online registration is being handled on Active.
The run course has been changed. It has been reduced to about four miles. The run incorporates both singletrack and utility roads, eventually ending with a run along Isaqueena Lake. The website states that the run may be the most difficult in the series.
The kayaking portion is four miles around Isaqueena Lake. Despite the drought in the area, Isaqueena Lake has plenty of water because its water level is controlled by Isaqueena Dam. The transition area can see almost the whole kayaking portion so it will be accomodating for spectators.
Because of possible clear cutting, there may be some alterations to the bike course before race day. There are several miles of dirt road leading to and coming from the singletrack. This singletrack is fast, with a few power climbs.
