On Saturday Dec. 5 we will be hosting a shaped-note singing from 10 am to 3 pm. Shaped-note singing is a style of singing that was a very big part of our Southern/Appalachian heritage and the practice is fading away. Drop by any time that day (you don’t have to stay for the whole day) to see what it’s all about. Extra hymnals will be available for those who want to participate. For more information about shaped-note singing visit www.christianharmony.org and www.fasola.org. Also, bring the family and let the kids help the American Girls Club make Christmas tree ornaments and decorate the OHC Christmas tree. Light refreshments will be provided.
On Saturday Dec. 12 we will be hosting a baked goods tasting and recipe auction beginning at noon and lasting until 1 pm. Bring your family’s favorite cake, pie, cookies, or bread to share with everyone and a neatly written copy of the recipe to auction. Proceeds raised from the sale of these recipes will benefit OHC special projects. Following the tasting/recipe auction we are inviting Oconee Baby Boomers (those born between WW2 and 1960) to come out and share your Christmas memories with us. The Baby Boomers are a very special generation of people who have seen lots of changes in the area in a short amount of time.
Finally, our 2nd Saturday Old-Time Music Gathering will also be held as scheduled from 3pm until 5 pm featuring the Heritage String Band.
