20th Passage of the Palmetto Trail opens June 7

(Published Jun 4, 2008)

SPARTANBURG, SC - Join us on National Trails Day to celebrate the opening of the 20th Passage of the Palmetto Trail. The Croft Passage is 12.6 miles long, connecting the city of Spartanburg to the Glenn Springs area in southern Spartanburg County.

Participants should meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 7 at the Croft State Natural Area Headquarters and park in the day use lot behind the office. We will take a short hike south to the new bridge over Fairforest Creek for a ribbon cutting. The 65? fiberglass bridge that crosses this scenic creek was sponsored by Advance America.

The Croft Passage uses established trails for bikers, hikers and equestrians for two-thirds of the trail. Beginning at Henningston Road, the newly built trail will accommodate all three types of users for four miles across ridges and drainages and along Kelsey Creek to the northern trailhead at Cedar Springs. Those interested may join us for a hike on part of this new section after the opening ceremony.
