Native Plant Society Lecture

Published Nov 18, 2007

CENTRAL, SC - The Native Plant Society will host "How's the Hemlock," at 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, at the Founders Hall at Southern Wesleyan University.

Last year, Joe Culin of Clemson University told us about — and solicited our help in — research being done to combat the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid. This Asian aphid-like insect is killing Hemlock trees throughout the eastern US, and the loss of this critically important species would affect a lot more than just plants and plant-lovers. Lets get an update: Are we closer to finding a “cure”?

The South Carolina Native Plant Society is a non-profit organization committed to the preservation and protection of native plant communities in South Carolina. We work to make this happen by providing programs and activities designed to:

  • educate and inform members and the general public about the importance of native plants
  • support efforts by government agencies to protect habitats and endangered species
  • encourage the use of native plant materials in public and private landscaping
  • promote the commercial availability of native plant materials
