CALHOUN FALLS - The Calhoun Falls Chamber of Commerce sponsored the first annual Outdoor Sportsman Festival on Saturday, November 17, on the practice field at Calhoun Falls High School, right off the shores of Lake Russell. The event was well attended with several hundred in attendance.
Exibitors of hunting and fishing items were set up as well as taxidermists, off-road vehicles and other displays. The Abbeville County Clemson Extension provided a 4-H display and the Calhoun Falls High School FFA offered beautiful pansies for sell and demonstrated some of their skills in education.
Marian Tensley manned the firepit where s'mores could be made by roasting your own marshmallow. Buster Taylor, Danny Brown and Benjie Sorrow provided delicious hash and BBQ on site. There were prize drawings held every half hour for items donated by merchants from Calhoun Falls and other businesses. Peggy Lee Waters won the 30-06 rifle donated by Threlke Construction Company.
