Lake Hartwell Fishing Report - January 8, 2010
Bass fishing is slow and there are not many angers out there. The water is very cold and the bass are biting a little later in the day with a warm up. Stay down lake and use worms and jigs. Fish the humps and points half way to the backs of the creeks.

Lake Hartwell Striper Report as of 12-28-09
Look for the bait and fish to migrate to the larger stained creeks as the water temp gets below 50 degrees. Fishing will get technical as fish get selective and eat tiny shad in shallow water.

Lake Hartwell Fishing Report - January 1, 2010
Fishing got a little tough last week. A cold front that is still coming through backed the bass up to deeper water and really slowed the bite down. We are still using crankbaits to catch a few bass, but the smallest one used was a DT10 which dives to ten feet.

This time of year, with water temp around 51, you really have to be patient and sit on them. Wait for that magic hour. Once good bait and fish are marked be patient. Downrods and downriggers in 30-35 feet will produce!

This is the time to use those crankbaits like never before. The color will depend on the clarity of the water and the bass will move from week to week and even from day to day. You will find bass on points one day and then they might move to a do nothing clay bank the next.

Crappie: Fair to good, using small minnows, grubs and small jigs. Fish are moving into deeper water around brush piles.
Lake Hartwell Fishing Report - December 4, 2009
Bass fishing is getting better and better as more anglers are seen fishing during the week. Lake levels remain good and the water temperatures are slowly falling. Fall and winter months are great months to use those crankbaits, jerk baits and jigs. With a little homework, you will be able to locate stretches of banks and a multitude of main lake points that will hold quality bass all winter long.
SC DNR STOCKS BROADWAY LAKE WITH BLUEGILL
ANDERSON COUNTY –On Thursday, December 3, the SC Department of Natural Resources (DNR) released 125,000 bluegill fingerlings into their new home at Broadway Lake in Anderson County. The bluegill, which averaged about 1-inch in length, were in excellent condition when released into the lake. The fish were produced at SC DNR’s Jack D. Bayless Fish Hatchery at the Dennis Wildlife Center in Bonneau, SC.

Some of the smaller Bass are still chasing bait fish along the banks. The bass might be a little sluggish and a softer, slower presentation might be necessary.

A variety of baits are catching Bass right now along with a variety of patterns. Top water baits are still working some and so are a few crankbaits. Lipless crank baits are my choice right now while beating the banks.

Bass fishing was a little slow during the days last week primarily due to the full moon. Lake levels remain good and the water will warm up fast as the sun comes over the tree tops. Usually the water warms up into the upper 60's by the afternoon hours.
SC Fishing Trends - 11/2/2009 - Jocassee, Keowee, Hartwell
Striped and Hybrid Bass: Good to very good. Captain Bill Plumley reports that his boat has been going after striped and hybrid bass which remain in the bigger water from the mid-lake down to the dam. He is fishing in around 75 feet of water down lining herring. He has also heard about good schooling action for smaller fish up the Seneca in the Martin’s Creek and Coneross area. Captain Steve Pietrykowski confirms that there is strong schooling action for small to medium sized hybrids and striper up the Seneca arm. These fish are chasing small threadfin shad and so it is important to cast to them with small artificial baits.
