Crappie: Fair to good, using small minnows, grubs and small jigs. Fish are moving into deeper water around brush piles.

Lake Hartwell Fishing Report - December 4, 2009

Bass fishing is getting better and better as more anglers are seen fishing during the week. Lake levels remain good and the water temperatures are slowly falling. Fall and winter months are great months to use those crankbaits, jerk baits and jigs. With a little homework, you will be able to locate stretches of banks and a multitude of main lake points that will hold quality bass all winter long.

SC DNR STOCKS BROADWAY LAKE WITH BLUEGILL

ANDERSON COUNTY –On Thursday, December 3, the SC Department of Natural Resources (DNR) released 125,000 bluegill fingerlings into their new home at Broadway Lake in Anderson County. The bluegill, which averaged about 1-inch in length, were in excellent condition when released into the lake. The fish were produced at SC DNR’s Jack D. Bayless Fish Hatchery at the Dennis Wildlife Center in Bonneau, SC.

Some of the smaller Bass are still chasing bait fish along the banks. The bass might be a little sluggish and a softer, slower presentation might be necessary.

A variety of baits are catching Bass right now along with a variety of patterns. Top water baits are still working some and so are a few crankbaits. Lipless crank baits are my choice right now while beating the banks.

Lake Hartwell Fishing Report - November 6, 2009

Bass fishing was a little slow during the days last week primarily due to the full moon. Lake levels remain good and the water will warm up fast as the sun comes over the tree tops. Usually the water warms up into the upper 60's by the afternoon hours.

SC Fishing Trends - 11/2/2009 - Jocassee, Keowee, Hartwell

Striped and Hybrid Bass: Good to very good. Captain Bill Plumley reports that his boat has been going after striped and hybrid bass which remain in the bigger water from the mid-lake down to the dam. He is fishing in around 75 feet of water down lining herring. He has also heard about good schooling action for smaller fish up the Seneca in the Martin’s Creek and Coneross area. Captain Steve Pietrykowski confirms that there is strong schooling action for small to medium sized hybrids and striper up the Seneca arm. These fish are chasing small threadfin shad and so it is important to cast to them with small artificial baits.

Lake Hartwell Fishing Report - October 30, 2009

The bass are starting to move in and out around the newly submerged brush piles and rocky areas. They are becoming a little more aggressive and are hitting spinnerbaits, jerk baits and medium diving crank baits. An occasional top water bite is still present so keep one tied on.

SC Fishing Trends - 10/26/2009 - Jocassee, Keowee, Hartwell

• Striped and Hybrid Bass: Good to very good. Captain Steve Pietrykowski reports that there is strong schooling action for small to medium sized hybrids across much of the lake. His boat has been finding from below Oconee Point down to 18 Mile. These fish are chasing small threadfin shad and so it is important to cast to them with small artificial baits. Captain Bill Plumley reports that his boat has been going after the big striper which remain in the bigger water from the mid-lake down to the dam. He is fishing in 50-75 feet of water down lining herring and has caught fish up to 26 pounds in the last few days. He has also heard about good schooling action for smaller fish in the Martin’s Creek and Coneross area.

Lake Hartwell Fishing Report - October 23, 2009

Bass fishing is clearly picking up as anglers are reporting good fishing up in the two major rivers.

SC Law Enforcement Officers Fishing Tournament

The one-day tournament is set to start at 7 a.m. Saturday 10/24/2009. Staging will take place at the Broyles Landing Recreation area at Hartwell Lake. The tournament is open to all bass fishermen, not just law enforcement officers.

 The Gold Rush Chapter of Trout Unlimited, based in Dahlonega, Ga., has announced that it will sponsor the first annual Gold Rush Cup Fly Fishing Challenge to be held on the beautiful and picturesque waters of the Chestatee River.on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.

Lake Hartwell Fishing Report - October 16, 2009

I am still catching a limit of bass on my Number Ten Moss Back X-Rap on the sides of points and on the flats that hold grass or isolated stick-ups. I use ten pound test Sufix line on a seven foot casting rod.
