Mountains Area
Lake Jocassee:
- Bream: Very good. In the backs of creeks, coves and around waterfalls bream are being caught in good numbers. Fish crickets, worms or small artificials like inline spinners.
- Trout: Good. Jocassee Outdoor Center reports that trout have moved into deeper water and are being caught trolling spoons in 50 to 80 feet of water, particularly over tree tops. At night trout are being caught around the intakes in 40 to 80 feet of water on nightcrawlers and minnows.
- Catfish: Good. Catfish are being caught at night under lights by fishermen anchored near the intake, often as a by-catch for trout fishermen.
- Black Bass: Fair. Shakey head worms and Carolina rigged Zoom worms are both working.
Lake Keowee:
- Bream: Good. The Fishin’ Hole reports that cricket sales have been strong and bream are bedding in the shallows out to 10-12 feet of water. Fish crickets or worms beneath a small cork or behind a small split shot.
- Largemouth and Spotted Bass: Fair. Captain Chris “Fishboy” Schuber reports that he has been catching good numbers of spotted bass around Stamp Creek Landing speed fishing shallow running crankbaits in 25 feet of water. Carolina rigged watermelon seed worms are also working well around main channel points.
Lake Hartwell:
- Catfish: Very good. Catfishing is hot in 15 to 20 feet of water in creeks like Reed Creek, Crawford’s Ferry, and Lightwood Log. Cut herring, nightcrawlers, and catalpa worms (if you can find them) are all working, and lots of fish in the 25 pound range are being landed.
- Bream: Very good. Around lighted boat docks and marinas some monster bream are being caught at night in the Tugaloo.
- Striped and Hybrid Bass: Good. Fish down lines baited with live herring, or cut herring, in 30 to 40 feet of water over main channel humps and around trees.
- Largemouth Bass: Good. Lamar’s Fishing Cabin reports that early in the morning “Hartwell rigs” baited with two flukes have been working as have Sebilles in natural shiner color.
- Crappie: Good. At night fishing around bridges up the Seneca or Tugaloo River is resulting in good catches. Use Green Monster lights to bring up the fish and use live minnows to catch them.
