The Hart County Commissioners will hear from the Mega Ramp Steering Committee and developer Mel Gerrard, who is seeking to add log cabins to a campground, during the regular monthly meeting Tuesday, July 12, at 5:30 p.m.
The mega ramp is one of five projects making use of a contamination settlement going to three counties, including recreational fishing projects, boat ramps and shoreline fishing access in Stephens, Franklin and Hart counties. Schlumberger Technology Corporation (Schlumberger), headquartered in Texas, agreed in 2006 to pay $11.8 million to federal and state agencies for injuries to natural resources caused by the presence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB’s) in the Twelvemile Creek, Lake Hartwell and surrounding areas.
Gerrard will propose a project that could lead to the construction of dozens of rental log cabins at Chandlers Ferry Campgrounds if the Commissioners decide to participate.
