The Western Carolina Sailing Club (WCSC) will host the annual Portsmouth Open Sailing Regatta on Saturday and Sunday, March 31-April 1. The Open is the first official sailing event of the 2007 summer season and is classified as a southeastern, regional sailing event for centerboard sailboats. The Portsmouth Open is sanctioned by the South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association and under the authority of the national authority, US Sailing.
The spectacle will begin on the water around noon Saturday. Boats will start arriving at the club from distant locations on Friday, and while sailing during the weekend, boats will fly the colorful spinnaker sails which are like large hot-air balloons.
