Milkshakes for Life JacketsChick-Fil-A and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is conducting a joint promotion this summer to encourage life jacket use on Lake Hartwell. Anyone found wearing a life jacket on Lake Hartwell this summer might receive a "flotation citation," good for a free milkshake at Chick-Fil-A.

National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a lake wind advisory from 12-8 p.m. today. Southwest winds are expected to increase through the day with sustained speeds around 20 mph and gusts to 35 mph.

Lake Hartwell Sail and Power Squadron inspectors performed 106 vessel safety checks between Friday afternoon, May 18, and Saturday morning, May 19.

Grant Awarded to Promote Boating SafetyLake Hartwell Association was notified recently that a grant for $3700 was approved by the
BoatU.S. Foundation which will enable LHA to produce Navigation Brochures to promote boating safety. The grant was selected “from a very competitive field of 148 proposals all of which merited serious consideration.” Printing and distribution of 20,000 brochures will be made possible by the grant.

Man Unhurt in Explosion on Lake HartwellCharles Hunter of Greenville was in his boat on Lake Hartwell May 24, minutes after refueling and launching at Saddlers Creek Boat Ramp, when an explosion occurred and the boat begin to burn. Uninjured, he was helped into another boat. Williford Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the fire, but the boat sank.

Frank “Boat” Williams says that eating less and living so others see Jesus through you are the keys to a long, happy life. Williams, 99, shared his views and memories of the area at a recent Polk County Historical Association (pictured) meeting that focused on his life. At one point he shimmied down a few stairs and ran down the aisle handing out old photographs for the audience to view.
