(Published Mar 2, 2010)

Perhaps the biggest day of the boating year is set for Saturday, March 13th on Hartwell Lake south of Anderson. The boating public is a spring and summer crowd and its about time their active year is launched with a "BANG" on the day set aside for opening the season -- Commissioning Day.

The event will be hosted by Western Carolina Sailing Club south of Anderson. New Commodore Richard Wolcott and the WCSC Board of Stewards will host boating families, law enforcement, local Senators and Representatives, DNR managers, emergency medical services and the media. The 2010 season is officially open with the firing of the yacht racing cannon.

Commissioning Day starts at 1500 (3:00 PM) with a welcoming ceremony including presenting colors (flag hoisting and the National Anthem), a Prayer, recognition of dignitaries, introduction of Past Commodores and short welcomes.
