Anderson, Seneca Campgrounds Among Top 100

Two local campgrounds have been named to the 2007 list of "America's Top 100 Family Campgrounds." Springfield Campground in Anderson and Oconee Point Campground in Seneca made the list and were two of seven in South Carolina. Georgia had campground selected, Pettersburg Campground on Lake Thurmond in Appling.

The "Top 100 Family Campgrounds" were selected based on criteria requested by family campers including park amenities, beautiful outdoor scenery, and educational facilities. The criteria included parks that offer hot showers, laundry facilities, hiking trails, family beaches, radio - free zones, visitor centers, educational programs, children's events, and that are located within 100 miles of a metro location.

Springfield Campground (pictured) on Lake Hartwell offers 79 campsites with water and 50 amp electrical hookups.

From Interstate 85 SC, take exit #14. Take 187 south until you reach Providence Church Road. From Hartwell, Georgia, take Hwy 29 north to 187 north. Follow 187 north until you reach Providence Church Road.

Oconee Point Campground is located at the northern end of the lake on the Seneca River and close to Clemson, SC.

From Interstate 85 in SC, exit #11 on SC Hwy 24 towards Townville, SC. 1½ miles past Townville, turn right onto Coneross Creek Rd. Proceed 2.5 miles turning south onto South Friendship Rd then 3 miles to park entrance.
