Foating Restroom
$135,000 Floating Restroom on Keowee

An article in "Greenville On-Line" reports that Pickens County and Duke Energy officials want to build a floating restroom on Lake Keowee as a convenience for boaters. “Instead of having to come into a marina or to a docking area to use a restroom, they can actually use this floating restroom.”

Troopers act to slow speeders on Hwy 11 & U.S. 178

State 11, designated as a scenic highway, presents special concerns. Highway 11 is a main corridor from I-85 going in various directions. For many, a day at the lake includes alcohol, but that drivers need to make sure they’re sober when they get back on the roads. There will be a license check (at the Pickens-Oconee county line on State 11) to send a message.

Hagood Mill Kids Fest Saturday March 21

The Second Annual “Hagood Mill Kids Fest,” will offer a variety of entertainment by and for children. Highlights of the festival will be featured musical performances by the Holly Springs Elementary School’s “Young Appalachian Musicians (Y.A.M.S.), as well as a special performance by Buffalo Barfield and the costume character P. Doodle Possum & his Possum Holler Playhouse.

Thursday, January 22, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., author, Jerry Vickery will sign his book "The Forgotten Society of the Keowee River Valley," in the LaVonne Nalley Piper Auditorium at the Pickens County Museum.

Wireless @ The Pickens County SC Library System!

Laptop users can now sign on to the Internet at any branch of The Pickens County Library System! The library is excited to be able to extend wireless internet service to the Village Branch in Pickens and the Sarlin Branch in Liberty. Having wireless will give us greater flexibility in accommodating our patrons and expand computer usage.

Flute Making Class 11/1/2008

On Saturday, November 1, 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. instructor, John Davis will teach a Native American Style Flute Making Class in the Liz Smith-Cox Educational studio at the Pickens County Museum, 307 Johnson St, Pickens.
