PENDLETON, SC - The Silver Crescent Foundation is teaming up with Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton to host Camp Success G.I.R.L.S., an educational and engaging program that fosters interest in science and engineering among female students in grades 6 - 8. The weeklong camp will run daily from Monday, July 14-Thursday, July 17, from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and on Friday, July 18, 8:00 am to noon.

More than a summer camp, Camp Success G.I.R.L.S. (which stands for Great Imaginations Really Lead to Success) provides campers with hands-on projects that validate their ideas and encourage further study in engineering and technology. Campers will participate in a number of design projects while on campus and the female students will have unprecedented access to college teachers and industry professionals as they explore career and educational opportunities in manufacturing.

"Camp Success offers a wonderful opportunity for these young girls to witness first hand the benefits engineering innovation provides in enhancing our lives," said Stephanie Evans, an Academic Advisor at Tri-County Technical College and director of the Pendleton camp. "We hope the activities and projects these campers complete will build their interest in studying engineering, science and technology."

According to Silver Crescent Foundation President Tony Smith, these skill sets are vital to developing a strong workforce for the future. "Today's modern manufacturing facilities require engaged and innovative workers that are not only comfortable with changing technologies but can creatively solve problems that arise as part of the fast-changing global marketplace."

Seventh and eighth grade students interested in attending Camp Success can register online at www.CampSuccess.org. The cost to attend Camp Success is $25.

The Silver Crescent Foundation is committed to inspiring, supporting and preparing students for success in the workplace while helping to improve the quality of life for all South Carolinians. The Foundation collaborates with other nonprofit organizations, business leaders, institutions of higher learning and public school systems to help the next generation of young people understand the fundamental connections between engineering innovation, technology vitality and our high standard of living.
