Volunteers still needed for Lake Hartwell Clean-Up CampaignVolunteers are still needed to help pick up litter around the lake between now and September 27, National Public Lands Day. “So far, we have had a good response with a lot of last year’s volunteers participating again, but we would also like to see some new folks participate,” said Hartwell Lake Park Ranger Tanya Grant. “There are still particular areas like old road endings and areas near bridges that need to be cleaned. People that live adjacent to the lake are encouraged to sign up and walk the shoreline in their vicinity.”

Savannah River SwampDid you know that the Savannah River swamp is a formidable natural formation complete with centuries-old cypress trees, oxbow lakes and endless pockets of wilderness? It’s true that the South Carolina side of the Savannah River comprises this aforementioned habitat that boasts a wonderful biodiversity. The Savannah River Preserve is an extension of the decade-old SOLO, or South Lowcountry Focus Area. The SRP is a consortium of private landowners, public entities and non-profit organizations that has quietly compiled 110,000 acres of protected lands associated with the Savannah River.
