State Heritage Trust Board to Meet

SALEM, SC - The South Carolina Heritage Trust Advisory Board will meet 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Piedmont Forestry Center near Salem in northern Oconee County. The Heritage Trust Advisory Board meeting is open to the public except anyone with business for the advisory board or needing directions to the meeting may contact the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Columbia office at (803) 734-9095. The DNR Heritage Trust Program protects significant natural and cultural lands in South Carolina.

The Piedmont Forestry Center is a facility of the S.C. Forestry Commission.

Dr. Julia Krebs of Florence is chair of the Heritage Trust Advisory Board. The policy making Heritage Trust Advisory Board serves as a liaison between the public, the Heritage Trust Program and the S.C. Natural Resources Board. Formed by state law in 1976, Heritage Trust has protected 83,959 acres on 73 state heritage preserves found throughout South Carolina.

The planned agenda for the Heritage Trust Advisory Board’s Nov. 8 meeting includes:

  • Conservation Bank board update
  • Overview of Stumphouse Mountain project
  • Overview of the Partnership for the Blue Ridge
  • Jocassee Gorges management update
  • Presentation on mafic formation survey work
  • Peachtree Rock Heritage Preserve Management Plan (Lexington County)
  • Chestnut Ridge Heritage Preserve Management Plan (Greenville County)
  • Heritage preserve management activity in Region 1 update

DNR protects and manages South Carolina’s natural resources by making wise and balanced decisions for the benefit of the state’s natural resources and its people.
