South Oconee Growing Faster than Keowee Area

(Published Aug 18, 2009)

The growth rate in rural south Oconee County is outpacing growth around Lake Keowee, according to the first draft of the Housing Element to be incorporated in this year’s updated Comprehensive Plan.

According to the number of households in each of the 11 Census tracts in Oconee, Census Tract 309, which represents the southern part of the county, grew by 54 percent during the past decade from 1990-2000.

Census Tract 309 includes the Village of Fair Play and encompasses the Interstate 85 corridor.

During the same period, Census Tract 302, which encompasses much of the fast-developing Lake Keowee area, increased its number of households by 43 percent.
