OCONEE, SC - The Oconee Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Department (PRT) is working with Clemson University to receive input from residents on tourism potential in Oconee County and to create a visitor profile. This visitor profile will pinpoint where visitors are coming from, why they are coming and how long they’re visiting through a series of interviews conducted by Clemson University students at different locations around the County.
Oconee PRT is also partnering with Greenville, Anderson, and Pickens Counties, and destination marketing organizations, like the Anderson Convention and Visitors Bureau, to prepare for the upcoming ESPN Bass-Masters Classic fishing tournament to be held in February. The men’s tournament will be held on Lake Hartwell, while the women’s and juniors tournaments will be held on Lake Keowee launching out of South Cove. This is the Super Bowl of Bass fishing with the top 50 anglers in the country competing for over a million dollars in prize money. The winning angler will receive one half-million dollars in prize money. There will also be over 13 hours of coverage of the tournaments and weigh ins on the ESPN network. The weigh-ins for the men and women will be held at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, while the weigh ins for the juniors will be on site at South Cove.
