St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church In Hartwell Welcomes Visitors

(Published Nov 28, 2007)

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Hartwell invites you to come worship. Services are held at 10 a.m. every Sunday in the church sanctuary at 579 Fairview Avenue.

St. Andrew’s is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion as well as the Episcopal Church, USA. The Episcopal Church is a Christian denomination that is sometimes described as walking a middle way between Protestant and Catholic traditions. St. Andrew’s welcomes all Christians to its weekly worship service, the Holy Eucharist.

In addition to conducting regular Sunday worship, St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church is known for its work in the community. It has a very active community outreach program and contributes to many local charities. The church also sends packages to local servicemen several times a year.

The seeds for St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church were planted after Charles and Mary Eleanor Kidd moved to Hartwell from Alabama in 1946. There was no Episcopal church in Hartwell, and so they began attending Grace Episcopal in Anderson, S.C. Eventually, through the efforts of the Kidds, other Episcopalians in Hartwell and Episcopal clergy, a small congregation was formed.

The St. Andrew’s congregation held its services in members’ homes first, then at Hartwell Presbyterian Church and later at the Hartwell Community Club House. The first church building for St. Andrew’s was completed in 1961, and the new church was completed in 1987.
