HARTWELL, GA - The annual Cateechee Cup Matches were officially renamed by the Men’s Golf Association as the Barton Cup Matches, to honor and recognize the contributions of Cateechee Golf Club founder Lee Barton and the Barton family, according to the club website.
The 2007 Barton Cup competition took place June 9-10, and the Blue Team overcame a one-point deficit after the first day to take a 23-21 victory. Congratulations to Blue Team Captain Jonathan Shiflet and winning team members David Baston, Lance Boles, Landy Boles, Jerry Cannady, Kevin Cronic, Stacey Drake, Frank Frame, Carl Griffin, Howard Eaton, Rafael Hernandez, Eddie Holland, Carey Jackson, Linton Johnson, Rob Jones, Doug Maxwell, Rick McCurley, John McGuigan, Alan Ortiz, Steve Schyck, Alan Scott and John Seay.
Bob Bugbee, Mickey Cossio take Member/Guest title
The team of Bob Bugbee-Mickey Cossio outlasted the other six flight winners in the “Shootout” to win the championship of the 2007 Cateechee MGA Member/Guest Tournament, which attracted a record field of 37 teams, on May 5-6.
Each team played five 9-hole matches within their flight, and those accumulating the most points (1 point each for winning a hole or match, 1/2 point each for halving a hole or match) advanced to the 6-hole, alternate-shot Shootout played on holes 13-18.
Bugbee-Cossio emerged from the 2nd Flight. Congratulations to Bob, Mickey and all the other flight winners as follows: 1st Flight, John McGuigan-Scott McGuigan (2nd in Shootout); 3rd Flight, Rick McCurley-Ed Crump (5th in Shootout); 4th Flight, Terry Stewart-Ryan Stewart (7th in Shootout); 5th Flight, John Starrett-Brian Fulbright (6th in Shootout); 6th Flight, Linton Johnson-Lint Johnson (4th in Shootout); 7th Flight, Ron Anderson-Rodney Anderson (3rd in Shootout)
Club Championship Events coming up in August
The 2007 Cateechee Men’s Club Championship will be held August 11-12, and the Men’s Senior Championship will follow on August 18-19. Look for details and sign up in the Golf Shop starting in early July.
