There is no better way to experience the majesty of Lake Hartwell than by boat. Before you make a sea change from landlubber to mariner, however, you owe yourself a visit to Grant’s Wooden Boat Works in Hartwell.
The company’s full range of services includes boat service and repair, full restorations and even custom boat-building. “We do everything from refresher coats to complete restorations, upholstery and engine work,” notes proprietor Jim Grant, a graduate of the prestigious Landing School of Boat Building and Design in Arundel, Maine. “We do the job the right way. Unlike most restorers, we also do the mechanical repairs on motors.”
Customer satisfaction on restoration jobs is especially gratifying to Grant. "Our customers are extremely happy with their boats after we’ve finished them,” he says. “Oftentimes, their boats hold sentimental value, and it feels good to make people so happy again with their boats.” An antique boat enthusiast himself, Grant is involved in the annual Lake Hartwell Antique Boat Festival, held every April.
Grant’s Wooden Boat Works, now in its tenth year of business, is located in Hartwell at 277 Cleveland Avenue. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone number is 706-376-3441. The company serves boat lovers in Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama and Florida.
