TOWNVILLE, SC - Thousands of fish have been found dead in the Beaver Dam Creek area, according to the S.C. Department of Natural Resources, which, along with other water officials, is investigating. A lack of dissolved oxygen resulting from the drought is thought to be the cause.
Reports state that the fish, mostly catfish, carp, largemouth bass, bluegill and gizzard shad, began dying a week ago in what officials term a "fish die-out." Over three dozen fish die-outs have occured through South Carolina this year.
