CLEMSON, SC – The Walker Course at Clemson University has been named one of the top 25 public golf courses in South Carolina by the South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel. It was the only course from the Upstate on the list.
The Walker Course has been the recent training ground for PGA Tour stars, including Lucas Glover, Charles Warren, Jonathan Byrd and D. J. Trahan. Designed by D. J. DeVictor, the course winds over rolling terrain and heads for home alongside Hartwell Lake. The most talked-about hole on the course is the par-three 17th that uses four bunkers behind the green to create the footprint of Clemson’s renowned Tiger paw.
“When our panel includes a course on the ‘25 Best You Can Play’ list we are recognizing the hard work of a lot of people, especially the course’s head superintendent, head professional and their staff,” said Michael Whitaker, executive director of the Golf Course Ratings Panel. “We highly encourage every golfer to give these courses a try. We are confident they will enjoy the experience.”
Eighteen of the courses on the list are in the lower part of the state. The top 25 public-access courses were chosen out of 200 that applied.
