ANDERSON COUNTY, SC—On March 6-7, Anderson County will proudly welcome the Southern Classic Volleyball Tournament to the Civic Center of Anderson and other venues throughout the Upstate. Hosted by Club South, the Southern Classic Tournament, which is similar to the ACC tournament of club volleyball, is in its 16th year.

“Anderson County Council encourages businesses and residents to help us welcome these young athletes to our County,” said Anderson County Council Chairman Tommy Dunn. “This is an opportunity to showcase our hospitality and hopefully, encourage the event planners and athletes to come back again.”

“The Southern Classic will generate a minimum direct economic impact of $120,000 in Anderson County,” said Anderson County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Glenn Brill. “Players and their families will spend money in our hotels, restaurants, retail stores and gas stations. The effort to land this tournament was collaboration between Anderson County, the City of Anderson, Anderson School District Five and the Anderson Convention & Visitors Bureau.”

A total of 319 teams will participate from five states – South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama and Virginia. The tournament will attract over 4,000 players, over 350 coaches, and 10,000 spectators. Over 40 college scouts are expected to take recruiting trips to the tournament, which is sanctioned by USA Volleyball Palmetto Region (SC).

There are seven age categories (from 12-year-olds to 18 year-olds) with two different divisions - club and power. Club level teams will play on Saturday while power level teams play on both Saturday and Sunday. A total of five courts will be set-up at the Civic Center of Anderson. To accommodate this tournament, Club South is bringing special flooring into the venue located at the Anderson Sports & Entertainment Center.
The City of Anderson’s Recreation Center and other local gymnasiums, including T.L. Hanna High and McCant’s Middle School, will also host tournament games. All totaled, the tournament will use 70 courts at 29 venues.

Club South has more than 500 girls training and playing at the WestSide Club in Spartanburg.
