The South Carolina Parks, Recreation & Tourism office has posted the preliminary 2007 Economic Impact of Domestic Travel research report on their website at http://www.scprt.com/files/Research/2007%20TEIM%20Preliminary.htm . According to this 2007 report:
Tourists spent $130 Million in Anderson County resulting in employment for 1320 people.
Tourists spent $47 Million in Oconee County in 2007 resulting in employment for 450 people.
Tourists spent $74 Million in Pickens County in 2007 resulting in employment for 820 people.
Overall in South Carolina tourists spent $9.7 BILLION and provided employment for 115,220 people.
Oconee PRT Director Phil Shirley commented "Over the past couple of years, tourism has become a major focus of agencies like Oconee Alliance, Chambers of Commerce, Heritage Corridor, the PRT Commission and the PRT office. This effort has provided increased marketing efforts for Oconee County and allowed us to showcase Oconee County in more areas. The CVB will play a major role in this as we move forward acting as the leader in the promotion and destination marketing of Oconee County."
