High Flying Fun Returns to Anderson County
Snowbirds Over Anderson II
The Canadian Forces Precision Aerobatic Team, the Snowbirds will be returning to the Anderson Regional Airport on Wednesday May 13th. They’ll be joined by the U.S. Army’s Golden Knights Parachute Team. “The Snowbirds almost never visit the same city two years in a row, but were amazed by the crowds they drew in Anderson County last year,” said Anderson resident and national air show narrator Hugh Oldham. “Adding the Golden Knights to the show will be the icing on the cake,” he added.
The Snowbirds are one of the world’s premiere military jet demonstration teams. More than 20,000 people experienced their show last May in Anderson County. “We are very fortunate to have the team here in Anderson,” said show coordinator Barry Wood, “the Snowbirds receive more than 200 requests for performances in North America this year.”
The Snowbirds will fly into Anderson on Tuesday afternoon, May 12th and remain in Anderson until departing Thursday morning. Plans are for a free public performance Wednesday afternoon, May 13th at the airport. The gates will open at 1 pm and the show will run from 4-6 pm.
“Comparing the Snowbirds to the US military’s Thunderbirds and Blue Angles is like comparing break dancing to the Bolshoi Ballet,” says Oldham. He continued, “The Snowbirds fly nine jets in close formation, less than 36 inches. They make over 50 formation changes during their performance; it’s just an amazing display of beauty and grace.”
Local businesses and residents are stepping forward to ensure the air show will be free. Donations can be sent to Snowbirds Over Anderson, c/o Arthur State Bank, 602 N. Main St., Anderson, SC 29621
