Lake Hartwell Continues to Rise

Recent rains have allowed area lakes to rise to near nomal levels.

April 11, 2009 - Construction began last week on a Lake Hartwell Mega-Ramp located at Tugaloo State Park in Lavonia, Georgia.

March rain relieves Georgia drought

An unusually wet March has brought major drought relief to north Georgia. Only the Lake Lanier and Lake Hartwell basins are now in drought. The remainder of north Georgia is drought-free.
 

Lake Hartwell to Rise Rapidly

The combination of an expected heavy rainfall and ZERO discharge from Lake Hartwell has lead the COE to project a rapid increase in the lake level. Up nearly 3' this weekend.

Due to abundant rains the Corps is able to temporarily stop outflows from Thurmond.

Once outflows resume, the majority of downstream needs will come from Thurmond because it got more rain, so Hartwell should continue to fill, Birdwell said.

Members of the Lake Hartwell Marketing Alliance met for just the second time Friday 1/3/2009 in an effort to unify the marking efforts among representatives of six counties fronting the lake.
