The Lake Hartwell Assocation, working with others having similar interests and a proven record of getting things accomplished in a timely, logical and scientific fashion, sent a recommendation to the Commander of the Savannah District, Corps of Engineers, Colonel Edward J. Kertis in early April 2009. The recommendation proposed the following:
1) Expediting the Environmental Assessment needed to allow reduced flows over the next year;
2) Continuing the reduced flows during the current drought as needed to reach and maintain full pools; and
3) Expediting the revision to the Hartwell Lake Drought Contingency Plan with a primary recommendation to create one drought trigger level early in the drought management process and reduce the amount of water being released earlier in the process.
This week we received a favorable response from Colonel Kertis that we wanted to share with you. The complete recommendation and the Colonel's response are posted on the LHA website. We encourage you to read these documents and welcome any questions or comments you may have.
