Lake Hartwell Assocation is asking for your help.

(Published Dec 14, 2008)

Reprinted from a letter from LHA to its members:

"We are asking all members to please write to their elected officials and urge them to support the extension of the basin flow reduction period.

The recent basin flow reduction had great promise of providing relief to lake levels during our record drought. Unfortunately, due to slow action by the states and agency concerns, it looks like the proposed five months of lower flows will be cut to barely over two months.

LHA has written to all our respective federal and state legislators asking their support to get the lower flow rates extended indefinitely, or at least until actual adverse effects are seen. We believe that our representatives need to hear from as many folks as possible. We have really gotten far too little support to date from our elected officials. And frankly, the state agencies have just as much to say about how our water is used as the Corps.

Please join us by contacting your elected officials today. You can find contact information through the "Government Contacts" page at the LHA website www.lakehartwellassociation.org

We would recommend contacting your state governor, U.S. Senators and Congressman, and state senator and representatives. If you are a part-time resident, it would be best to contact the representatives for the location of your lake residence.

For your convenience, we are also providing a sample letter on the LHA website which you can use. If you prefer, simply call your representatives. Their phone contacts are also provided.

We appreciate your active participation in this effort. If the drought continues, this may be our only chance to protect our water resources.
