Kroeger Marine Leading Lake Clean-Up Effort on Lake Hartwell

OCONEE, SC - Kroeger Marine will lead an effort to clean-up illegally discarded, dock flotation beads, also known as "icebergs," Friday, June 29, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., starting at South Union Boat Ramp off of Highway 11. Participants should bring their own boats, life jackets, food, water and rope.

Grant Awarded to Promote Boating Safety

Lake Hartwell Association was notified recently that a grant for $3700 was approved by the BoatU.S. Foundation which will enable LHA to produce Navigation Brochures to promote boating safety. The grant was selected “from a very competitive field of 148 proposals all of which merited serious consideration.” Printing and distribution of 20,000 brochures will be made possible by the grant.

Updated Hartwell Shoreline Plan Implemented

In June 2005 the public review process for updating the Hartwell Project Shoreline Management Plan (HLSMP) was initiated with the announcement of a planned update and acceptance of public comments. Based on public input and management responsibilities, the final HLSMP was fully implemented January 30, 2007.

Lake Hartwell Association Needs Board Members

The success of the Lake Hartwell Association depends entirely on its volunteer board and committee members. There is currently a serious need for additional board members. The existing board is stretched thin with several folks trying to handle multiple responsibilities.

Over 250 members and guests attended the LHA annual meeting on October 19. In one of the best attended meetings in years, attendees heard a number of informative presentations on a variety of important subjects.
