[ In Lake Hartwell ]PCB Settlement Plan DRAFT (Part 1 - Introduction)This document primarily addresses the Recreational Fishery Injury and proposals to use the remaining funds for the injury to Lake Hartwell’s recreational fishery. In regards to damage to the recreational fishery, the 2006 federal consent decree states that funds will be used for recreational fishing to
- create opportunities for the public generally to harvest fish that are not subject to fish consumption advisories currently in place for Lake Hartwell and 12-Mile Creek
- enhance the recreational fishery of Lake Hartwell, 12-Mile Creek, and the surrounding area, and/or
- implement projects designed to improve the habitat and natural resources within the 12-Mile Creek corridor."

DROUGHT STATUS DOWNGRADEDHeavy rain over the last 8 days (Sept. 15-Sept. 22) led the S. C. Department of Natural Resources to downgrade the incipient drought declaration for Oconee and Pickens counties. The state agency members of the Drought Response Committee voted on Wednesday Sept. 23, 2009, to remove these counties from drought.
[ In Lake Keowee ]Keowee River Development & YMCAA 75-acre village center will include upscale coffee houses, fresh-food markets, art galleries, adventure outfitters and locally owned restaurants, Vick said. A “boutique” hotel will host business conferences and adventure vacationers who want to enjoy area activities from hiking to whitewater rafting.
The development is centered on a love of the outdoors and its cornerstone will be a new dream home for the Foothills Area Family YMCA.
