The Georgia House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution proposed by Rep. John Heard, R-Lawrenceville, on Friday, Feb. 9. The resolution urges the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Congress to begin a study of the costs and effects of adding to the storage capacities of all Corps reservoirs located throughout the State of Georgia.

The goal is to increase the water levels of lakes Hartwell, Russell, Lanier, West Point and Seminole to full pool as weather and rainfall permits. Heard stated in his proposal that a full pool will help increase water supply in Georgia, satisfy water demand, minimize the effects of drought, and to avoid the costly and time-consuming creation of new reservoirs.
