SAVANNAH, GA - Workers from Georgia Power Company began work in late September to replace multiple aerial electric utility line poles along GA State Route 47 crossing J. Strom Thurmond Lake (Little River Causeway) at the Lincoln/Columbia County line. The work requires construction of a temporary dock in the power line right-of-way at the Lincoln County side of the transmission line. The majority of the pole replacement work will be conducted from barges.
This pole replacement will maintain the reliability and safety of the aerial electric utility lines in this area, according to officials at Georgia Power Company.
Boats will still be able to pass under Price-Legg Bridge. There will be no interruption of traffic on Highway 47 during the work period. Project construction will continue for approximately nine weeks.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District expedited the necessary authorizations for this project in order to meet Georgia Power Company’s maintenance schedule. The Corps of Engineers warns boaters to use caution while in the vicinity of the barges. Work zone buoys will be placed around the barges while on the lake. The public is urged to obey all navigation aids while on the water and to fish and boat away from the barges. Company security and construction staff will be onsite to ensure the safety of the public.
