SAVANNAH, GEORGIA – Lake Hartwell shoreline permit holders who have a permit that was issued more than one year ago and have not installed their dock by Jan. 1, 2010, will forfeit the dock portion of their permit, officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Hartwell Project Office reminded residents today.
“We extended the deadline to have docks installed during the recent drought, but with the reservoir full now, residents have only until New Years Day to finish installing their docks,” said Sandy Campbell, Hartwell Lake chief ranger. Campbell said failure to install the dock by the deadline will result in cancellation of the boat dock portion of the Shoreline Use Permit (SUP) for six months. Applicants in certain circumstances might also lose the dock permit permanently.
“The only way to insure the boat dock portion of your permit remains valid is to install the approved dock before the deadline,” Campbell said, “and any new permit application or modification to an existing Shoreline Use Permit is contingent upon the property meeting the 2007 Hartwell Shoreline Management Plan permit criteria.” Access the plan online at http://www.sas.usace.army.mil/lakes/hartwell/hsmp.htm .
