Corps Temporarily Restricts Water Withdrawal from Lake Hartwell

Published Nov 28, 2007

SAVANNAH, GA -

The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Hartwell Project has implemented a temporary water withdrawal restriction for private individuals with Shoreline Use Permits to pump water for irrigation purposes. This restriction applies to all of Hartwell Lake and will be in effect as long as the existing outdoor watering ban in the State of Georgia remains in effect and/or for the duration of additional water bans that may be implemented by South Carolina relative to the current drought.

The water restriction has been implemented in an effort to conserve as much water as possible during the current drought.

If you have questions concerning this matter, contact Park Ranger Sandy Campbell toll free at (888) 893-0678, ext. 315.

Water withdrawals from Hartwell Lake for irrigation purposes by private individuals occurring during the restriction will be considered a violation of Regulations, Part 327.12. Violations may result in a monetary fine and/or a mandatory court appearance before the appropriate U. S. Magistrate.
