I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday Season and is ready to take on the Flotilla activities for 2007. It was good to see those in attendance at the Change of Watch on the 13th, and to recognize Ronny Merritt with the Stephen J. Pequinot Award. Congratulations Ronny! You are a model for all of us regarding your dedication to your Staff position.

While visiting in Florida earlier this month I was reminded again about the importance of Safe Boating. A fatal boating accident occurred near Marco Island when a 32 foot, boat traveling at high speed, hit a wave, flew into the air, slammed back into the water and broke apart. A 32 year old man, who had owned the boat less than 3 weeks, was one of the victims along with 3 other family members. Tragedies like this are preventable.

Hopefully, with our dedicated efforts, we can help boaters avoid such accidents. Let’s make 2007 a safe year on Lake Hartwell and Lake Keowee. In addition, we’ll have a little fun doing it!
