Lake Hartwell Fishing Report - 04/20/2012

(Published Apr 27, 2012)

LAKE HARTWELL IS DOWN 8.7 FEET, STAINED & 71 DEGREES - Bass fishing is fair and the fish are ready to roam banks looking for food. Start with the smaller Sebile swimmers and try all white and baby bass colors. Use a slow retrieve and stop the bait and it will turn around when it stops. Use the Zoom u tail worms, jigs and lizards in a variety of shad and green colors. The mouths of the up lake creeks are fair on points with an all 1/2 ounce chrome and blue back Rat L Trap. The down lake fish are biting small blue worms or blue crank baits on the points and humps. The lake is clear so use light 10 pound Sufix Elite line. The Zoom pumpkinseed lizard is fair using a long Carolina rig and a full one ounce weight to points. Try a Zoom Super Fluke on a light Carolina rig and three foot leader on the main lake humps. Try swimming the baits with the rig and dip the tails in a red or chartreuse dye. The river fish are best early and skip a water melon with red flake Zoom trick worm under the wood and around the docks.
