COLUMBIA, SC - The S.C. Department of Natural Resources will convene the South Carolina Drought Response Committee at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5 at the Ramage Conference Center, 1001 Bluff Road, State Farmers Market in Columbia.

The purpose of the drought meeting is to evaluate the drought status statewide to determine if the official declaration should be upgraded from moderate to severe.  The South Carolina Drought Response Committee declared a moderate drought statewide on June 6. Since the meeting, below normal rainfall combined with the record heat in August have intensified the drought conditions. For more information about drought, visit the Office of State Climatology or contact State Climatologist Hope Mizzell at (803) 734-9568 in Columbia.
