GLENDALE, SC - The Glendale Outdoor Leadership School (GOLS), a program of the Palmetto Conservation Foundation, is slated to open its doors October 2 with a variety of outdoor recreational classes and clinics for adults and youth alike.

GOLS is located just outside Spartanburg, SC, in Glendale, a historic former mill town. GOL's hosts educational seminars and speakers’ series. GOLS provides all needed gear, safety equipment, and instruction. Courses and classes are open to the public, so everyone has the opportunity to participate.

The mission of GOLS is to enhance quality of life and personal growth through outdoor recreation and education. GOLS offers a wide variety of programs for children and adults alike, including kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, and adventure climbing.

Youth programs, such as Kids in the Woods and Discovery 1-2-3, are aimed at introducing school aged children to the wonders of the earth and to different types of outdoor recreational skills. Adult programs include sports such as kayaking, mountain biking, fishing, and climbing with clinics geared toward establishing a ‘basic’ skill level in the participants.

Besides classes and clinics, GOLS has other outdoor educational opportunities. Each month an extraordinary individual will be featured, beginning with Pat Hickey on Oct. 15.  Hickey is the USC professor who set his ambitions high and realized his goal of climbing Mt. Everest.  Also beginning this fall is the school's Trail Design Seminar Series with the first seminar topic being volunteer recruitment and retention.  For more information about any of the clinics or educational topics please visit our Web site at www.setGOLS.org.
