SCPRT Schedules Recreation Plan Workshops around State

Published Oct 14, 2007

COLUMBA, SC - The S.C. Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (SCPRT) is inviting public input as the agency develops its official outdoor recreation plan for the next five years.

SCPRT will hold a series of five workshops on the State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation
Plan (SCORP) from Oct. 29 to Nov. 15 in Lamar, North Charleston, Blackville, Greenville and
Columbia.

As the state’s official outdoor recreation plan, the SCORP guides distribution of South Carolina’s share of federal Land and Water Conservation Fund and other grants, and serves as a guide and information source for local, state and federal agencies and private organizations.

The five workshops will include summaries of state outdoor recreation research, and provide
organizations and individuals the opportunity to express their views and concerns.

That input will be used as the Matheny-Burns Group of Lexington prepares the SCORP for
completion expected in spring 2008.

The workshops are set for:

  • Monday, Oct. 29, 7 p.m., Lamar Library, 103 East Main St., Lamar
  • Tuesday, Oct. 30, 3 p.m., Cypress Hall, Wannamaker County Park, 8888 University
    Blvd., North Charleston
  • Monday, Nov. 5, 7 p.m., Blatt Community Building, Barnwell State Park, 223 State Park
    Road Blackville
  • Tuesday, Nov. 6, 3 p.m., Appalachian Council of Governments, 30 Century Circle,
    Greenville
  • Thursday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m., Central Midlands Council of Governments, 236 Stoneridge
    Drive, Columbia.

Outdoor recreation issues and concerns also can be sent by Nov. 21 to scorp@scprt.com or SCPRT-RPE, 1205 Pendleton St., Columbia, SC 29201.

For more information, contact SCPRT’s Recreation, Planning & Engineering Office at (803) 734-0173 or scorp@scprt.com.
