Jimmie Orr (19xx – 2005) is a Lake Jocassee legend. He owned Hoyetts Grocery & Tackle from 1982 – 1998 and was a pioneer in the Lake Jocassee outdoors business. As the owner of Hoyetts, he was one of the first Trout and Bass fishing guides on the lake and was frequently seen fishing with Monty McGuffin on the Saturday morning Carolina Outdoorsman television show. Anyone who has fished Lake Jocassee in the last two decades remembers Jimmy by his ever present smile and witty outdoorsman humor.
The Annual Jimmy Orr Trout Tournament Championship was established this year in memory of Jimmy. Every year, the Jocassee Outdoor Center (formerly Hoyetts) sponsors Trout Tournaments on Lake Jocassee that begin in Fall and end in Spring. For $10, the contestants may enter the Jimmy Orr Championship. At the end of the last tournament, the award and cash prize (90% payout) will be given to the individual who caught the biggest trout throughout all of the tournaments.
