FWA Concerts

Every year Freedom Weekend Aloft brings an “A List” group of diverse, nationally known recording artists to the event to perform concerts nightly. The 2007 event will be the unveiling of a brand new 15,000 seat open air amphitheater in Heritage Park.

FWA Hot Air Balloon Schedule

The hot air ballons at Freedom Weekend Aloft in Simpsonville, SC, are scheduled to take flight this evening. There may be hot air balloon competitive flights on several mornings, and while the event will not be open for morning competitions, the hot air balloons will be visible from any locations in relatively close proximity to Heritage Park.

Challenge of the Centuries

The Challenge of the Centuries will be Saturday-Sunday, May 25-26, beginning and ending in Hartwell, Georgia, adjacent to Lake Hartwell and the Georgia/South Carolina border. Loops traverse rolling back country roads with picturesque scenery and minimum traffic. Loops are 35, 62, and 100 miles. Open to cyclists and accomplished skaters.

Town Hall Meetings On Statewide Water Plan

The Water Council has scheduled a third series of town hall meetings around the state to discuss the statewide water planning effort and to give citizens an opportunity to ask questions and offer comments on this important project. These meetings will focus on integrated policies for water quantity and water quality as well as introduce sub-state planning guidance.

Freedom Weekend Aloft

When Freedom Weekend Aloft was hosted in Anderson, homeowners and visitors on and near Lake Hartwell could enjoy the sights of ballonists floating across the lake and landing in yards and fields. Some people would even help ground and pack them. But now that it'll be hosted in Simpsonville, the LakeFrontHartwell area will be ballon free this Memorial Day Weekend. However, the entertainment will continue on and anyone wishing to attend can plan to do so anytime Friday, May 25-Monday, May 28.

The Cornerstone Mission Team will host an open team bass fishing tournament at  3 p.m., Saturday, May 19, at Broyles Landing off Highway 24 on Lake Hartwell. Pay back is one per five. Registration is $60 per boat, includes big fish pot.

Southeast Youth Championship Regatta on Lake Hartwell

The 2007 Southeast Youth Championship Regattam, sponsored by the Clemson Rowing Club, will be Saturday-Sunday, May 12-13, at East Bank Beach, Lake Hartwell, Clemson. The Southeast Youth Championship Regatta is a U.S. Rowing registered championship level regatta providing regional programs with a quality year-end championship event. It is open to crews of the seven states that make up the Southeast Region: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

One-Day Effort to Stamp Out Hunger

WASHINGTON, February 21—The National Association of Letter Carriers (AFL-CIO) announced today that the nation’s largest food drive to combat hunger will be conducted this year on Saturday, May 12 in all 50 states and U.S. jurisdictions. On that day, letter carriers will collect non-perishable donations as they deliver mail along their postal routes.
