20th Annual Wild Quail Management SeminarsBobwhite quail populations in South Carolina and the Southeast have been declining steadily over the past 60 years due to major land use change and reduction in suitable habitat. The 20th Annual Wild Quail Management Seminars, sponsored by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the S.C. State Committee of Quail Unlimited, are designed to instruct landowners and land managers in the proper techniques of creating habitat that will support native populations of bobwhite quail.
Two seminars will be conducted over a three-day period, March 8-10, 2007, at the Webb Wildlife Center in Hampton County. The registration fee is $75 and includes meals, overnight accommodations and seminar materials. Space is limited, so register early to reserve a slot in one of the two sessions. SCDNR Adult/Youth Turkey HuntsTurkey hunters will get the chance to introduce youths to the grand sport of wild turkey hunting during adult-youth turkey drawing hunts sponsored in April by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. The deadline to apply for these hunts is Monday, March 2.

Palmetto Sportsmen's ClassicThe
23rd Annual Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic will be held at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia March 23-25. Doors will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, March 23; from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 24; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 25.
New and returning major attractions for 2007 are “Twiggy—The Water Skiing Squirrel,” “The SwampMaster” Alligator Show, Okefenokee Joe, Roark Ferguson and Joe Kelly’s display of North American Wildlife Collection and Southern Whitetail Collection. Also in 2007, the Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic will feature its second archery contest where participants may bring their own bow and arrows and compete in an archery contest sponsored by the Palmetto Archery Federation and the Lake Marion Archery Club.

Pickens Annual Juried Art ShowThe Pickens County Museum of Art & History's 28th Annual Juried South Carolina Artists Competition will take place beginning March 31, 2007. This competition is open to all living South Carolina artists, 18 years of age or older, working in any medium. National Safe Boating Council Launches Story & Art ContestThe National Safe Boating Council (NSBC) has launched its annual Boating Safety Sidekicks contest. This year’s theme is, "I’m a Safe Boater. Are You?” The NSBC has partnered with West Marine and other NSBC member organizations to expand the contest to include not only stories but also posters and videos, to creatively publicize and promote safe boating.
