HARTWELL, GA - The Hartwell Hikers will visit two waterfalls, Riley Moore Falls (pictured) and Brasstown Falls, June 27, near Westminster for a two-and-half miles hike. Both trails are rated easy to moderate.

The group will meet at Bell's Shopping Center to arrange car pools and will leave promptly at 9 a.m. Plan to bring lunch and water if you wish to participate.

Call Louise Ayers (706) 376-2779 for more information.

Riley Moore Falls is a stubby, 12-foot high waterfall on the Chauga River. In fact, on some rivers, this broad, 100-foot-wide cascade would probably pose just a brief obstacle to whitewater paddlers. But don’t let the relative height to sway you; this is one of those cases where the moderate 45-minute hike along a recently constructed trail is alone worth your hiking time.

Brasstown Falls tumbles for 120 feet in three consecutive and equally dramatic drops. Relatively secluded in a portion of a scenic vale known Brasstown Valley, it’s a nice place to bring the family because of the moderate, 20-minute hike and calm swimming hole at the base of the upper falls.
