(Published May 30, 2007)

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources will convene the South Carolina Drought Response Committee on Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at 2 p.m.. The meeting will be held at the Ramage Conference Center, 1001 Bluff Road, State Farmers Market in Columbia.

The purpose of the drought meeting is to evaluate the drought status statewide to determine if the official declaration should be upgraded from incipient to moderate. The state agency representatives of the Drought Response Committee declared an incipient drought statewide on May 8, 2007. Since the meeting, rainfall has been much below normal and subsequently most drought indicators including river flows are declining.
