Youth Waterfowl Hunts Set for Lake Russell

ELBERTON, GA - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct four special youth waterfowl hunts at the Richard B. Russell Lake Project on November 10, November 17, December 8, and January 12. Seven slots will be available for youth hunters 9 to 15 years of age. For the November 10th hunt, only youth ages 9-15 years old will be allowed to shoot, and they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. For all other hunts, a parent or guardian must accompany youth participants and will be permitted to shoot along with the youth hunter. Hunters will be selected by random drawing.

Hunters wishing to participate must call Jeff Brooks at the Russell Project Office at 1-800-944-7207 ext. 3424 not later than 5:00 p.m. on October 26th, or submit a letter requesting consideration for the hunts. Letters should be addressed to Jeff Brooks, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Richard B. Russell Project Office, 4144 Russell Dam Drive, Elberton, GA 30635. The letter must include preferred date of hunt, name of the youth and adult, age, address, and home and daytime phone numbers. Letters must also be received at the Richard B. Russell Project Office by 5:00 p.m. on October 26th. Hunters will be notified of their selection by November 2nd.

All hunters will be checked in at the Russell Project Office. Parents or guardians must be licensed in accordance with existing Georgia Game and Fish Regulations including the Migratory Bird Hunting License (H.I.P.), state, and federal waterfowl stamps. Appropriate license(s) will be inspected. All state regulations and bag limits will be strictly enforced. Legal firearms for waterfowl hunting are identified in the Georgia Game and Fish Regulations.
