ANDERSON, SC - Anderson County Councilwoman Gracie Floyd invites everyone to attend the Gang Taskforce Summit which will be from 6 to 8 pm on January 29th at the Anderson County Library (pictured).
“In order to eradicate gangs, we need to educate ourselves. We have to learn why gangs exist, the signs of gang involvement, who the gang members are and why they are attracted to join. Educating ourselves about the complexity and structure of gangs equips us to take action. We must acknowledge that they are here – in our towns and neighborhoods. If we wait until the problem is blatantly visible, it will be too late. The Anderson County Gang Taskforce is scheduling this forum so that citizens can become aware of the issues and take a stand against gang activity. I encourage everyone who has a stake in our community and cares about our future – for the sake of our children and grandchildren to attend.”
"It is essential that our community be aware of at-risk behavior that is occurring in our young people,” said Tenth Circuit Solicitor Chrissy Adams. “Unfortunately, gang activity is a growing concern not only nationally, but locally as well. Our office, in cooperation with the Anderson County Gang Task Force, is determined to make our community as safe as possible. We are working closely with Councilwoman Gracie Floyd, Sheriff David Crenshaw, and Chief Martin Brown, as well as with local community groups and leaders to identify and prosecute individuals who are participating in illegal gang activity. We are in full support of the Gang Task Force’s attempts to educate and inform parents and citizens of how to recognize and address the issues of gang activity in our community.”
County Councilwoman Floyd also hosted a successful Gang Taskforce Summit in Columbia for SC elected officials during October 2007.
